The Audacity of Success
Austin Hill over at Town Hall has an article that that permeates the leadership of the Democratic Party when it comes to capitalism.
Hillary Clinton’s recently released tax returns show a net worth in excess of $100 million. Barack Obama’s show a healthy net worth of more than $8 million. They’ve obviously both done very well for themselves, which makes it all the more hypocritical of them to continuously vilify the private sector and indict corporate executives.
In last week’s debate, in response to the question of why he would consider almost doubling the capital gains tax when historically revenues increase when kept low, Obama channeled Karl Marx and stated that a tax hike nonetheless deserved merit out of “fairness” because some folks are simply paid too much.
As a highly educated man Obama should know that there’s no such thing as too much pay but only pay dictated by market forces. But as his answer reveals, he’d rather engage in rhetorical class warfare for political expediency rather than putting that Harvard J.D. of his to good use. According to him, more government largess is acceptable -efficiency be damned- so long as those dastardly execs get what they deserve.
So when exactly did taxes go from being a tool for generating revenue to a tool for penalizing success? I say if we’re going to be in the business of punishing wealth, both Clinton and Obama, then, should lead by example and donate their earnings to:
Gifts to the United States
U.S. Department of the Treasury
Credit Accounting Branch
3700 East-West Highway, Room 6D17
Hyattsville, Maryland 20782
And with the millions in royalties Obama has earned from his book “The Audacity of Hope” perhaps he should consider “The Audacity of Success” as the title to his next offering. As Mr. Hill so richly puts it:
“Capitalism has indeed been “bery bery good” to the Obamas and the Clintons. Their “okay for me but not for you” attitudes are absolutely elitist, and even aristocratic.”
It’s to be expected of Democrats to abuse the “Haves vs. Have-Nots” narrative, especially during a recession year, but these two are shameless in their hypocrisy.
